If we look at the Laboratory Medicine sector, the main objective for the service quality is the patient satisfaction and possible errors in the “diagnostic-therapeutic-assistance” process may be the main sources of risk related to the deviation from the expected quality.

In particular, the pre-analytical phase is the one mostly affected by these errors, mainly related to manual operations or traceability errors. Pre-analytical errors represent the 46% to 68% of laboratory errors with an impact of about 0.23% to 1.2% on total laboratory costs.
